Sunny Thoughts

At the moment the wind is blowing my house sideways and I will be very surprised if I look out my window and my bean can of a car is still there, but there’s something soothing about being inside when outside is so stormy?  So this soothingness (I know that’s not a word hehe) I’m feeling I’m going to channel into a blog post about my favorite season. A season we can’t help to think about when the weather is the way it is outside. 

Ah summer, with your long evenings, bright mornings and warm temperatures. How I have missed you! I can’t wait for you to come so I can revert back to my denim knee length shorts, glad sandals and my awesome new Ray Bans!  And even though we all know Irish Summers are pretty sucky, how can we not look forward to summer when we look outside our windows today!  

It will be amazing to be woken up by birdies singing and a big yellow sun shining into my room and hurting my eyes before I even open them. Yes gentle ladies and gentlemen, I am a summer girl and days like this don’t stand a chance compared to the happy floaty days of summer that I love so so much. 

Don’t you just love the smell of barbeques in summer!? Or even better eating barbeques in summer!?  I am a fattie bum bum for those of you who do not know: P

But you see the thing about this summer is that I don’t know what it has in store. In fact I have no idea what’s in store! And as I am nearing the end of my current internship, I am starting to worry about what is next. But rather than worrying about the unknown I’m starting (or trying) to be positive and think, this is like an adventure!

This recession has thrown me a loof as I’m generally a girl who is extremely organised, who has her life mapped out and who always has her next step planned. Being thrown into this sudden unknown, isn’t easy for me but I’m learning to deal with it one step at a time and these thoughts of summer, make things seem a little bit easier for us all.

In a country and a climate that I thought I’d never see or live through I believe we need thoughts of a happy sunny summer to reassure us and keep us going!?

There’s no point in worrying about whether or not I will have a job this summer. I mean it’s not the end of the world and unfortunately, I just have to keep the chin up and see this as an opportunity to develop and explore.

Either way one thing is for sure, I cannot wait for bright evenings, walks along the canal and up in the woods, trips to the beach, playing basketball with my nephews, lazing about on my sun lounger whilst listening to my ipod, fighting with Winston the pug, drowning Paddy with the water hose, tweeting way too much, taking pictures, eating 99s, reading fashion mag after fashion mag and generally just being happy in myself.

I welcome the summer with open arms and a happy frame of mind, because as long as I have a lovely tan, sure everything else will work out! ;)

It seems so far away, but it really is only three months! We are almost there folks.

Here’s to summer 2011!

I am Fashion. Are you?

Ok, so as a girl who has a crazy obsession with reading fashion magazines day after day (I mean who doesn't!?) I got to thinking about what "true style" or "true fashion" really is? Although many would consider themselves as “followers” and swear by sticking to trend after trend, I see myself as more of a mover and a shaker. Why is this you ask, well it’s not because I think I’m the bees knees or see myself as the most stylish gal in the world, it’s because I don’t feel the need to stick to rigid trends just to be considered fashionable or stylish.

Now don’t get me wrong, being a small town girl means that I have made plenty of style mistakes over the years (who hasn’t!?) but now as a more travelled & educated girl at the lovely and young age of 22, I have finally become comfortable enough in my own skin to rock any style or look I want. How you ask? Well that’s easy to answer; it’s from finding and defining my own style. Oh yes, style icons are not my thing because I consider myself as a style icon, for me and only me.

Fashion shouldn’t be about sticking to what celebrities are wearing or about what magazines tell us to wear. It’s about being exposed to these things and interpreting them and making them our own. We all have a unique style and this is the one you should embrace because this is the one that you can rock season after season! Now don’t get me wrong, I can’t wait for all the stores to unleash their spring collections, but this is so I can find statement pieces that suit me and that I can wear year after year.

My advice to you? Embrace your own style. Who cares what anyone else thinks as long as you are comfortable enough to say, I’m making a statement for me and nobody else! People sometimes look at the clothes I wear and you know what I do? I hold my head high and smile, because I am rocking my look and that’s all that matters.

I mean can any of you really define what style you are? I ask myself every day what style I am and I can’t pinpoint it?! You know why? Because I don’t stick to a rigid style, there is no word for my style except that it’s my style! I mean my style in words is a mix of preppy girl meets prairie girl meets hippy girl meets American girl meets chic girl!? I mean wooooah! I know I’m a lover of talking but that’s a mouthful! But what is yours?

I guess what I’m trying to say is, define your own style. Have your take on what fashions we are exposed to and let you and your personality shine through because I promise you this, this is what will make you remember able as a style icon and I promise you, you will be forever comfortable in your own skin and who you are.

Things are depressing enough in this country without us worrying about how we look to add to it. Be yourself and shine in this recession. Make your stamp on the world. 

Let inspirations just be inspirations, you should be whoever you want to be!

Walking in a Winter Wonderland

I am and always will be a real life Dora the Explorer. I love to see the world and I have an unruly amount of ambition to jump on a plane as frequently as financially possible! But when the “dreaded” – as many called it – snow took over little Ireland back at the end of 2010, my Dora instincts strangely kicked in. Oh yes, it was time to explore the home town!

Now don’t get me wrong, it was super annoying when my bean can of a car didn’t start for about a month (she's so moody), but I genuinely loved looking at and being out in the snow. So I wrapped up warm, tucked my Abercrombie & Fitch bottoms into my never more appreciated UGGs and I started out on my adventure of exploring my little home town, a town that is widely known as the Venice of Ireland. 

This post is an account of that exploration. You may notice that I have a strange fascination with trees when looking at these. Fear not, I am a monkey! ;)

So what’s next...For my blog & for my life!?

Woooah! What a crazy few days this has been, not only did I eat a whole packet of Cadbury's Fingers and wrestle a pug named Winston, I started my first blog and suprise suprise it’s a success story so far!? After smiling to myself like an eegit for the last two days and giving myself one too many slaps on the back (I am ridiculous!) I am now ready, steady & set to start actually blogging about topics!

Oh yes gentle ladies & gentlemen, I am about to get waaaay more interesting! (I hope!) So sit back, have your Wispa or treat of your choice by your side ready for munching and enjoy! Kat xoxo

One for the Graduates...

Today I got to thinking; Ireland is very much a big suck fest at the moment. The government is well, the government, the weather is getting colder and colder and for many a graduate alike, no opportunities really exist for us?! So after hearing on the radio that I am now a part of the “Lost Generation” I was pretty down in the dumps!? After four years hard work, who am I to be considered as a casualty of the “Lost Generation” and I realised....This is not the most important thing in the world!

It’s so super easy to get carried away with the negativity that is Ireland, but at the back of it all, the world is our oyster! I dedicate this blog post to all those pee’d off graduates who feel fed up with this climate. I say, let’s forget the negativity, let’s smile and be happy and ENJOY our young and youthful lives!

Positive. Mental. Attitude. A lesson I learnt back in my school days as a Meathael leader. It’s the key to kicking this recession riddled country up the arse and enjoying it as much as Father Ted enjoyed kicking Bishop Brennan up the arse!

 And as Rachel Berry (who I love) once sang...when you’re smiling, when you’re smiling, the whole world smiles with you...let’s keep on smiling and enjoying our life’s and remembering the world is there for exploring! :)

So I’m a Blogger now!

So blogging, the hot topic on everyone’s lips these days. From employers, to friends, to hip and cool music artists, we are all hearing about the “coolness” of being a blogger. So, as one who likes to try new things, I have always being curious about blogging and I've finally decided to jump onto the band wagon and try it out.

For quite a little gal, I’m about five foot short, I am known to never stop talking. This for me is another outlet to talk and giggle and share happy moments with you all, my lovely blog readers! :)

When it came to deciding what to write my blog on however, my always having too much to say personality became a problem because I couldn’t choose which topic route to take! And with the help of my super duper boyfriend, I decided that keeping it general was the best option. So a big welcome to YOU from my super general (but brilliant!) blog! :)

   

Day one as a blogger...

How do I feel? To be honest, I feel I’ve been hit in the head with the cool and hip bat. Oh yes, I am now cool and hip and feel every bit of it! Waking up this morning, with a big sleepy head and its straight to the laptop to try get a design that best portrays my happy and flowery self. Flowery you say, yes I am a walking flower bed. Not that I go around with peat moss (is that what its called?!) hanging out of me but it’s kind of my trademark that with any outfit I wear any day you are bound to see some flowers somewhere! So there is the explanation of my blog design.

Ok so down to the important stuff (my sales pitch ahem ahem), what’s my blog gonna be about? Well I’ll tell you just that! It’s gonna be a mixture of things, things ranging from my own personal interests. Things like fashion and travel and photography and memories and probably a little bit of marketing seen as that’s my background. All in all it’s gonna be on a lot of things, but things to bring you variety and laughs and amusement I hope! :)

So I guess to some up this first official post, I hope you will pop back and browse my posts and my photography and hopefully I will inspire you in some way or another. The goal is to pass my smile onto you. So again, welcome, thanks for reading and I look forward to being blogging buddies :) ...In a non creepy way of course! :)
